About Rhode Island's Early Care and Education Data System (ECEDS)
The Rhode Island Early Care and Education Data System will centralize data about the early care and education system in Rhode Island focusing on programs, program quality, the workforce and children. This data will be used to provide meaningful, accessible and timely information to answer critical policy questions.
An integrated data system that:
- Integrates data from The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families; The Rhode Island Department of Human Services; The Rhode Island Department of Health; BrightStars; The Rhode Island Department of Education; Early Care and Education Providers; and the Workforce Registry;
- Provides the most current information on early learning providers in the state;

Streamlines processes that support the Early Care and Education Community including:
- Application submissions to DCYF, BrightStars and RIDE CECE;
- Monitoring of providers to regulations and standards;
- Provides a centralized place for the workforce to efficiently track professional records;
- Provides a centralized place for program administrators to keep track of and use information required for licensing and monitoring;
- Aggregates data on children, providers and the workforce to provide information to address the significant learning and health disparities of Rhode Island’s children; and
- Includes coordinated data governance for all aspects of system planning, data collection, maintenance, dissemination and use of data.
- A replacement for individual program data systems
- A duplication of Rhode Island’s Statewide Longitudinal Data System;
- A system that rates, evaluates, or ranks a child's performance; or
- A system that evaluates an early learning providers' performance.
